English Summary:
After seven years of hard work, Hans receives a large silver lump as payment. On his way home, he trades it for a horse, then for a cow, then a pig, then a goose, and finally a grindstone—believing each trade to be a good deal. When he accidentally drops the heavy grindstone into a river, he feels relieved, thinking himself the luckiest man alive. He returns home empty-handed but joyful, convinced that he has rid himself of all burdens and gained true happiness.
